Does the visible sign indicate the end of the motorway?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
NO
Explanation
In the video, you are driving on an expressway outside town; on both sides of the roadway there are blue signs with the expressway symbol crossed out with a red line and a plate "1000 m" - signs D-8 "end of expressway". The visible sign does not mean the end of the motorway - that is shown by sign D-10. The answer is: no.
The Regulation on road signs and signals states that the end of an expressway is marked with sign D-8 "end of expressway", and the end of a motorway with sign D-10 "end of motorway"; plate T-1a placed under sign D-8 or D-10 shows the distance to the end of the road. The signs differ in their symbol: on D-7 and D-8 there is a white outline of a car, on D-9 and D-10 - two roadways with a flyover above them; a red line across the symbol means the end. The difference matters in practice, because beyond the end of the expressway its rules stop applying: the 120 km/h limit on a dual carriageway, the ban on stopping outside designated places, the ban on U-turns and the ban on slow-moving vehicles. The "1000 m" plate gives you a kilometre to slow down and prepare for an ordinary road with junctions and cyclists.
