Question no. 10165 1 pts basic B

Does this sign indicate the end of the expressway?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video, you are driving on a high-speed road outside town; on the right there is a blue rectangular sign with two arrows, the right one merging into the left one, and a plate "300 m" - sign D-14 "end of lane". This sign does not mean the end of the expressway - that is shown by sign D-8 with the expressway symbol crossed out. The answer is: no.

The Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign D-14 "end of lane" marks the end of the lane at the edge of the roadway on the side shown on the sign, and plate T-1a placed under it shows the distance to the end of the lane. So the sign tells you that in 300 m the right lane will end and drivers in it will have to move into the left lane. The end of an expressway looks completely different - it is sign D-8 with the expressway symbol crossed out with a red line. If you are driving on an expressway, its rules still apply - this sign does not end them. What matters for you is what to do at the end of the lane: if you are in the right lane, you switch on your left indicator in good time, check the mirror and the blind spot and change lanes, giving way to drivers in the left lane.

Legal basis: § 49 para. 5 and § 50 of the Regulation on road signs and signals; Art. 22 para. 4 and 5 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
