D-42 Built-up area

What it means

Marks entry to a built-up area. From here a limit of 50 km/h applies around the clock unless another sign sets otherwise, along with, among others, the duty to let a bus pull out of a stop. The sign need not stand next to buildings; the sign itself counts.

In the exam

The 50 km/h limit in built-up areas applies 24 hours a day (the old 60 km/h at night was abolished in 2021). Exceeding it by more than 50 km/h in a built-up area means a 3-month licence suspension.

Legal basis: § 58 of the regulation of the Ministers of Infrastructure and of the Interior and Administration on road signs and signals (Dz.U. 2019 poz. 2310, as amended).
