Question no. 9255 1 pts basic B

Are you allowed in this situation to use the sound signal to urge on stationary vehicles?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video you are driving along a street in a town, past fences and houses, and approaching vehicles waiting at traffic lights showing a red light - a delivery van with gas cylinders and a police car. You must not use the horn to hurry the waiting vehicles. The answer is: no.

The Road Traffic Act allows you to use the horn or a light signal only when it is necessary to warn of danger; it prohibits the misuse of these signals, and in a built-up area it prohibits using the horn at all, unless it is necessary because of immediate danger. Hurrying someone who is waiting is not warning of danger - it is misuse of the signal, for which the law provides a fine, and in town it also breaks the ban. The vehicles in front of you are waiting at a red light, so there is certainly nothing to hurry, and in other situations the reason for waiting is often not visible: a pedestrian, a police officer's signal, a collision. You wait patiently at a safe distance and move off when the line of traffic moves. The horn only makes sense when you need to warn someone - for example a child running onto the roadway - and not to let out your impatience.

Legal basis: Art. 29 para. 1 and para. 2 point 1 and 2 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
