Question no. 8576 3 pts basic B

In this situation, are you approaching an uncontrolled intersection?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video you are approaching a roundabout in town; on the right there are signs A-7 "give way" and C-12 "roundabout", and before the junction there is a pedestrian crossing. You are not approaching an uncontrolled junction of equal roads - right of way here is set by signs. The answer is: no.

An uncontrolled junction of equal roads is one where right of way is not set by signs or signals and the right-hand rule from the Road Traffic Act applies; sign A-5 warns of it. Here the Regulation on road signs and signals tells you to read the signs: C-12 means traffic moving around an island in the direction shown on the sign, and C-12 together with A-7 means that a driver already within the junction has right of way over one who is entering. The difference is fundamental: at a roundabout of equal roads, marked only with C-12, the entering driver would have right of way over the circulating one, because he is coming from the circulating driver's right; with A-7 it is the other way round. So you always check whether A-7 is placed together with the roundabout sign, and here you give way to vehicles on the roundabout, and before entering you let pedestrians on the crossing go first.

Legal basis: § 36 para. 1 and 2, § 5 para. 1 and 5 of the Regulation on road signs and signals; Art. 25 para. 1 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
