Question no. 8559 3 pts basic B

Does a vehicle entering an intersection marked in such a way have priority over a vehicle moving around the central Island?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video you are approaching a roundabout in town; on the right there are signs A-7 "give way" and C-12 "roundabout", and before the junction there is a pedestrian crossing. A vehicle entering a junction marked like this does not have right of way over a vehicle moving around the central island - it is the other way round. The answer is: no.

The Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign C-12 means that at the junction traffic moves around an island or square in the direction shown on the sign, and sign C-12 together with sign A-7 means that a driver already within the junction has right of way over a driver entering that junction. If there were only sign C-12 without A-7 before the roundabout, the right-hand rule would apply and the entering driver would have right of way over the circulating one - that is why road authorities almost always add A-7, so that the roundabout does not get blocked. Before entering you look to the left, where circulating vehicles come from, slow down and enter when you will not force anyone on the roundabout to brake.

Legal basis: § 36 para. 1 and 2 and § 5 para. 5 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
