In the visible situation, do the horizontal signs on the roadway allow you to change lanes to the left?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the photo you are approaching a junction with traffic lights in a city behind a white van; the traffic lights show green, on the right there are signs B-21 and F-10, and the lanes are separated by a broken line. The road markings here allow you to change to the left lane. The answer is: yes.

The Regulation on road signs and signals states that marking P-1 "single broken line" marks out traffic lanes, and the ban on crossing applies to solid lines P-2, P-3 and P-4 - a broken line does not contain such a ban. The Road Traffic Act allows you to change lanes on condition that you exercise particular caution and give way to a vehicle travelling in the lane you intend to enter, and you must signal your intention in good time with your indicator. Before changing lanes, you also check the arrows on the roadway and sign F-10, so that you do not end up in a lane leading in a different direction from the one you want; here the left lane, like yours, leads straight on. You look in the left mirror and over your shoulder, switch on your indicator and move over smoothly when you will not force anyone to brake.

Legal basis: § 86 para. 1 and 3 of the Regulation on road signs and signals; Art. 22 para. 1, 4 and 5 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
