Question no. 8400 3 pts basic B

In this situation, are you obliged each time to stop your vehicle before entering the intersection?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the video you are driving in winter along a street in a town behind a dark minivan and approaching a junction; on the right, before the junction, there is sign B-20 "STOP"; the view of the intersecting road is limited by a corner building on the right and trees on the left. You must stop your vehicle every time before entering this junction - this is how the STOP sign works, unlike sign A-7. The answer is: yes.

The Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign B-20 "STOP" means that you must not enter the junction without stopping in front of the priority road and that you must give way to drivers travelling on that road; you should stop at the marked place, and if there is none - where you can make sure that you will not obstruct traffic on the priority road. Stopping is unconditional: even when the intersecting road looks empty, the wheels must stop turning. A STOP sign is placed where visibility is poor, so a vehicle with right of way may appear from around the corner at the last moment. You stop at a place from which you can see the intersecting road, check both sides and move off only when you will not obstruct anyone.

Legal basis: § 21 para. 1 and 2 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
