Is it permitted at this intersection to turn right without stopping?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the photo you are driving along a street in a town behind a red minibus that is waiting before a junction; on the right, before the junction, there is sign B-20 "STOP", and cars are driving along the intersecting road. At this junction, turning right without first stopping is not permitted. The answer is: no.

The Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign B-20 "STOP" means that you must not enter the junction without stopping in front of the priority road and that you must give way to drivers travelling on that road. The duty to stop applies to every direction - straight on, left and right - because the sign is placed where the view of the priority road is limited, and here it is blocked by a fence and trees. Turning right without stopping is a common mistake: the driver looks only left and does not see, for example, a cyclist riding along the pavement from the right. You stop behind the minibus, and when it drives off, you move up to the place from which you can see the intersecting road, stop again, check both sides and turn.

Legal basis: § 21 para. 1 and 2 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
