In the presented situation, do you have the right to stop the vehicle on the roadway on the bridge?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
NO
Explanation
In the video you are driving onto a bridge suspended on steel cables, with barriers on both sides of the roadway; cars are driving in front of you. You are not allowed to stop the vehicle on the roadway on the bridge. The answer is: no.
The Road Traffic Act prohibits stopping a vehicle in a tunnel, on a bridge or on a flyover (viaduct); the only exception is stopping caused by traffic conditions or traffic rules, for example in a traffic jam. On a bridge there is no shoulder or room for others to pass a standing car safely - every stop narrows the roadway and creates a queue on a structure that you cannot leave. The bridge must also stay passable for emergency services, which have no way of going around it. If your car breaks down on the bridge, you switch on the hazard warning lights, put out the warning triangle and try to push the vehicle off the structure as quickly as possible; for parking or admiring the view, you look for a place before or after the bridge, where stopping is allowed.
Legal basis: Art. 49 para. 1 point 3 and para. 4 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
