Question no. 8228 2 pts basic B

In this situation, are you performing an evasive manoeuvre when driving past a stationary public transport vehicle?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the video you are driving along a street among blocks of flats, and on the right, at a stop marked with sign D-15, there is a yellow and red city bus, which you drive past using the left part of the roadway. When you drive past a stationary vehicle, you are passing a stationary vehicle or obstacle (omijanie). The answer is: yes.

The Road Traffic Act defines passing a stationary vehicle or obstacle as driving past a vehicle, road user or obstacle that is not moving; passing an oncoming vehicle (wymijanie) concerns a vehicle coming from the opposite direction, and overtaking - a vehicle moving in the same direction. The bus is standing at a stop, so driving past it is passing a stationary vehicle, during which you must keep a safe distance and, if necessary, reduce speed. A stop is a particularly dangerous place: passengers get off and may walk out from behind the bus straight onto the roadway, and the bus driver may signal that they are pulling away - in a built-up area you must then allow the bus to join traffic (włączanie się do ruchu). You go around it slowly, leaving a wide gap, watching its front and its left indicator.

Legal basis: Art. 2 point 27, Art. 23 para. 1 point 2 and Art. 18 para. 1 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
