Is turning on the warning lights permissible on the towing car?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the photo you can see the inside of a car with the hazard warning lights button - a red triangle inside a triangle. Turning on the hazard warning lights in the towing vehicle is not permitted - such a vehicle must have its dipped headlights on, not the hazard warning lights. The answer is: no.

The Road Traffic Act states that a driver may tow a power-driven vehicle only on condition that the towing vehicle has its dipped headlights on also in periods of good visibility, and the towed vehicle is marked at the rear on the left side with a reflective warning triangle or shows flashing amber lights. For the towing vehicle, the Act requires dipped headlights and says nothing about hazard warning lights, and turning them on in a moving car misleads others: the indicators flashing on both sides make it impossible to signal a turn or a lane change, so the drivers behind you do not know what you intend to do. While towing, you drive slowly, with dipped headlights and a triangle on the towed car, and you turn on the hazard warning lights only when the vehicle combination stops in a place where it is a hazard.
