How should you dress a heavily bleeding wound?

This question is about dressing a heavily bleeding wound. You apply a pressure dressing with gauze and a bandage - answer A.

The Road Traffic Act requires a person involved in an accident to give the necessary help to the victims, and massive bleeding is a condition in which minutes matter. You apply a pressure dressing like this: sterile gauze directly on the wound, on top of it a hard pressing element (a rolled bandage, a folded triangular bandage), the whole thing tightly wrapped with a bandage, and the casualty lying down. The pressure closes the damaged blood vessels and allows the blood to clot. If the dressing soaks through, you add more layers without removing the previous ones. Sterile gauze alone (answer C) protects the wound from dirt, but does not stop heavy bleeding. Disinfecting with iodine or gentian (answer B) is a treatment for minor grazes - with heavy bleeding it wastes time, and pouring substances into a deep wound does not stop the blood and makes later surgical treatment more difficult. You put on gloves, and when pressure does not work and bleeding from a limb threatens life, you apply a tourniquet above the wound, noting the time.
