In this situation, are you allowed to stop the vehicle in the bay?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
NO
Explanation
In the video you are driving along a wide street in town, and on the right you see a bus bay with a block-paved surface and sign D-15 "bus stop". Before the bay there is also sign B-36 "no stopping". You must not stop your vehicle in this bay - it is intended for buses. The answer is: no.
The Road Traffic Act prohibits stopping a vehicle less than 15 m from the post or board marking a stop, and at a stop with a bus bay - along its entire length. The bay allows the bus to pull out of the traffic lane so that people getting on and off do not block the roadway; a car standing in the bay forces the bus to stop in the lane, and passengers to get out between vehicles. Regardless of this, the Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign B-36 means a ban on stopping a vehicle on that side of the road. The only exception to these bans is stopping caused by traffic conditions or traffic rules, for example in a traffic jam. For a short stop you look for a place beyond the end of the bay, more than 15 m from the sign.
Legal basis: Art. 49 para. 1 point 9 and para. 4 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym); § 28 para. 2 and 3 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
