In this situation, are you required to stop the vehicle in front of the pedestrian crossing?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video you are driving along a street through a small town, you pass a petrol station and approach a junction, before which there are signs B-20 "STOP" and D-6 "pedestrian crossing"; there is nobody on the crossing. You are not obliged to stop before the crossing - the stop required by sign B-20 takes place at the point from which you can see the priority road, and you stop before the crossing only when you have to give way to a pedestrian. The answer is: no.

The Regulation on road signs and signals provides that sign B-20 means no entry into the junction without stopping before the priority road, and the stop should take place at the marked place or, if there is none, where the driver can make sure that they will not obstruct traffic on the priority road. The Road Traffic Act requires you to reduce speed before a crossing and to give way to a pedestrian who is on the crossing or stepping onto it - when there are no pedestrians, you drive across slowly and stop only at the edge of the junction.

Legal basis: § 21 para. 1 and 2 of the Regulation on road signs and signals; Art. 26 para. 1 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
