While driving a bus, how will you turn right at the intersection?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

C. You will choose the trajectory, taking into account that the back of the bus wings to the side during a turn.

Explanation

In the photo you can see a road leading to a roundabout: on the right signs D-1 "priority road" and A-7 "give way", further on, before the roundabout, C-12 "roundabout", pedestrian crossings and arrows on the lanes. When turning right in a bus, you choose your path taking into account that during the turn the rear of the bus "cuts in" - answer C.

The Road Traffic Act requires you, when turning right, to keep as close as possible to the right edge of the roadway, but immediately adds that this does not apply when the dimensions of the vehicle make such a turn impossible. A long bus makes a wide arc when turning: the rear wheels travel closer to the inside of the bend than the front wheels, and the body overhang behind the rear axle swings outwards. That is why you drive a little further into the junction and only then turn, watching the mirrors to make sure you do not hit the kerb, a post or a cyclist. Answer B ignores the dimensions of the vehicle, and a right-angle turn with the auxiliary brake (answer A) is impossible for a bus.

Legal basis: Art. 22 para. 2 point 1 and para. 3 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
