What is the maximum time that a traffic control of the bus driver's working time may apply to?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
A. The current day and the preceding 28 days.
Explanation
In the photo a police officer in a high-visibility vest is getting on a bus to check the driver. According to the answer key, a roadside check of the driver's working time may cover the current day and the previous 28 days - answer A.
The EU Regulation on tachographs requires the driver to present, during a check, the record sheets, printouts and the driver card covering a set period back in time, and on this basis the inspector checks the driving time, breaks and rest periods. For years this was the current day and the previous 28 days - and this is the value the exam key uses. Note: since 31 December 2024 this period has been extended to the current day and the previous 56 days, so in practice a check can go further back. Answers B (14 days) and C (the current and the previous week) are too short in every version of the rule. So you must always carry the documents for the whole required period.
Legal basis: Art. 36 of Regulation (EU) No 165/2014
