How should you ride a moped on a dirt road?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

A. By raising yourself lightly on the footrests.

Explanation

In the photo there is a sandy dirt road with ruts, running next to some buildings. On a dirt road you ride a moped raising yourself slightly on the footrests - answer A.

On an uneven, sandy road the wheels bounce and the moped moves under you. When you raise yourself slightly on the footrests, with your legs and arms bent, you absorb the bumps with your body, the centre of gravity moves lower, onto the footrests, and the moped can move freely under you - it is easier to keep your balance and direction. Moving as far away from the handlebars as possible (answer B) takes weight off the front wheel and makes steering harder. Riding the same way as on dry asphalt (answer C) ignores the lower grip and the ruts. On a dirt road you ride more slowly, brake gently and avoid sharp turns of the handlebars in loose sand.
