What's the maximum number of mopeds that can form an organized column?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
A. 10
Explanation
In the photo several riders of two-wheelers, including scooters, are riding one behind another on a town roadway. An organised column may contain no more than 10 mopeds - answer A.
The Road Traffic Act limits the number of vehicles travelling in an organised column: passenger cars, mopeds or motorcycles - up to 10, bicycles, cycle carts or electric scooters - up to 15, and other vehicles - up to 5. The values 15 (answer B) and 20 (answer C) are therefore too high for mopeds. The limit makes it easier for other drivers to overtake the column. Successive columns of mopeds must travel at least 200 m apart, because a moped is not a motor vehicle. Riding in a column does not free you from following the rules - each rider is personally responsible for speed, following distance and signalling manoeuvres.
