Which of the following vehicles may not enter the road once you go past this sign?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
C. A motorcycle with a side car.
Explanation
In the photo, before the entrance to a narrow avenue, there is sign B-4 "no entry for motorcycles" (red border, outline of a motorcyclist). A motorcycle with a sidecar may not enter the road beyond this sign - answer C.
The Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign B-4 means a ban on the movement of motorcycles. The Road Traffic Act defines a motorcycle as a two-wheeled motor vehicle, a two-wheeled one with a sidecar or a three-wheeled one with symmetrically placed wheels - so a motorcycle with a sidecar is a motorcycle and the ban applies to it in full. A moped is a separate category of vehicle (engine up to 50 cm3, speed limited to 45 km/h) and B-4 does not cover it. A light quadricycle is not a motorcycle either, so it may enter. Such a sign is placed where motorcycles are unwanted because of noise, for example near hospitals or in parks. If the road authority wanted to close the road to all two-wheelers with an engine, it would have to place sign B-10 "no entry for mopeds" next to B-4 as well.
