What would be most affected by wrong adjustment of external mirrors in a motor vehicle?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
B. Safety during lane changes.
Explanation
In the photo you can see the left exterior mirror of a car, in which the side of the car and the car park behind it are reflected. Incorrectly adjusted exterior mirrors affect above all safety when changing lanes - answer B. When increasing speed (A) and when passing an oncoming vehicle, that is, driving past a vehicle coming from the opposite direction (C), the mirrors are not the key thing.
The Road Traffic Act requires a driver changing lanes to exercise particular caution and give way to a vehicle travelling in the lane they intend to move into; it is in the exterior mirrors that you check that lane. The Regulation on the technical conditions of vehicles requires mirrors that give the rear view necessary for safety. A badly adjusted mirror shows only the side of the car or the sky and makes the blind spot bigger, and a whole car can disappear in it. You adjust the mirrors so that the side of the car is only just visible at the inner edge, and before changing lanes you also glance over your shoulder.
