Is an adult passenger of a passenger car transported in the back seat obliged to use the seat belts?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
C. Yes.
Explanation
In the photo, a man sitting on the back seat of a car is fastening his seat belt. An adult passenger carried on the back seat must wear a seat belt - answer C. The obligation does not depend on the seat in the car or on whether you are driving in a built-up area or outside it (B), and answer A is simply against the Road Traffic Act.
The Road Traffic Act states that the driver of a motor vehicle and a person carried in such a vehicle equipped with seat belts must wear these seat belts while driving, with few exceptions, for example for people with a medical certificate or women who are visibly pregnant. The back seat is not safer: in a collision, a person without a seat belt hits the backs of the front seats and the people sitting there, and if the car rolls over, they are thrown out through a window. You fasten the seat belt before moving off, so that the lap part lies low on the hips and the shoulder part runs across the middle of the collarbone.
