How will you position the driver's seat before you start driving?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

A. In such a way as to have free access to the equipment of the car used to drive and steer the car.

Explanation

In the photo you can see the driver's seat in a passenger car with a seat belt and the steering wheel. You adjust the seat so that it gives you easy access to the vehicle's driving and control devices - the steering wheel, pedals, gear lever and switches - answer A. Your back should rest against the backrest (B is wrong), and your arms holding the steering wheel should be slightly bent at the elbows, not fully straight (C).

The Road Traffic Act requires a driver to be careful and to keep control of the vehicle, and without a good position behind the wheel you cannot brake or turn quickly. You move the seat so that, with the clutch pedal pressed all the way down, your leg is still slightly bent; you set the backrest almost upright, so that your wrist placed on the top of the steering wheel reaches it without lifting your back off the seat; and you set the headrest at the level of the top of your head. Only then do you adjust the mirrors and fasten the seat belt, which should run across the middle of your collarbone and across your hips.

Legal basis: Art. 3 para. 1 and Art. 19 para. 1 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
