On this road, once you go past this sign, can you overtake the vehicle you see on the left?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the photo you are driving in the right lane of a dual carriageway with two lanes in your direction, behind a passenger car; on both sides there are signs D-8 "end of expressway" with plates "1000 m", and the lanes are separated by a broken line. In this situation you have the right to overtake this car on the left. The answer is: yes.

The Road Traffic Act requires you to overtake on the left, after making sure that you have sufficient visibility and space without obstructing traffic, and that the driver in front of you is not signalling a change to the left lane. The Regulation on road signs and signals states that broken line P-1 marks lanes and may be crossed, and sign D-8 only informs you that the expressway will end in a kilometre - it does not restrict overtaking. You switch on your left indicator, check the left mirror and the blind spot, overtake and return to the right lane leaving a gap.

Legal basis: Art. 24 para. 1 and 2 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym); § 86 para. 1 and § 48 para. 1 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
