What does the warning light with the battery symbol turned red when on the move warn of?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

C. Of faulty operation of battery charging.

Explanation

In the photo a warning light with a battery symbol is shining red on the instrument panel. While driving, it warns that the battery charging is not working properly - answer C. It does not mean that the battery is damaged (A) or completely discharged (B), because then the engine would not start at all.

The light goes out after the engine is started, when the alternator starts charging the battery; if it is on while you are driving, the alternator, its belt or the voltage regulator is not working, and the car is running only on the energy stored in the battery. The Road Traffic Act requires you to keep the vehicle in a condition that does not endanger safety. When this light comes on, you switch off electrical devices you do not need, you do not switch off the engine, and you drive to a garage, because when the battery runs out, the lights and power steering will stop working.

Legal basis: Art. 66 para. 1 point 1 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
