When driving a motor vehicle in these conditions, are you allowed to use position lights only?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
NO
Explanation
It is night, the street is lit by street lamps and you can see well, but this does not change the rule: a moving car drives with dipped headlights. Sidelights alone do not light up the road and are used only to mark a stationary vehicle. So driving with only sidelights is prohibited.
The Road Traffic Act requires the driver to use dipped headlights while driving in conditions of normal visibility; during the day they can be replaced by daytime running lights, and at night on an unlit road you can add main beam. Sidelights are intended for the time when the vehicle is stopped or parked in conditions of insufficient visibility. A driver driving at night with only sidelights is poorly visible and cannot see pedestrians himself - this is a common cause of accidents.
Legal basis: Art. 51 para. 1-3 and Art. 52 para. 1 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
