You intend to turn right. Are you obliged to give way to vehicles approaching from the same direction, continuing straight-ahead?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
NO
Explanation
In the photo, we are driving a tram on the tracks towards a junction; on the right there is a traffic lane for cars, and at the right edge there are sign D-1 "priority road" and a board "Koniec objazdu" (end of diversion). When turning right, you are not obliged to give way to vehicles approaching from the same direction and going straight on - the answer is NO.
A rail vehicle has right of way over other vehicles, regardless of the side it is coming from - this rule also applies where directions of traffic cross outside a junction. Cars going straight on next to the tram must therefore let through a tram that is turning right across their lane. The exception is a junction marked with sign AT-5 "conflicting traffic" (ruch kolizyjny), where the turning tram driver gives way to those going straight on. You switch on the indicator in good time and watch the cars, because drivers do not always expect this.
