Are you allowed in this situation to overtake the vehicle and then change lanes, if you want to leave the highway at the nearest exit?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the photo you are driving in the left lane of a motorway, and a red car is travelling next to you in the right lane; the sign on the right says that there are 3000 m left to exit number 127. You are allowed to overtake this vehicle, and only then change to the right lane and leave the motorway - you have three kilometres to do this. The answer is: yes.

The Road Traffic Act states that before overtaking, the driver makes sure that he has adequate visibility and enough space without obstructing anyone's traffic, and keeps a safe distance from the vehicle being overtaken; when changing lanes, he gives way to vehicles travelling in that lane. You finish overtaking when you can see the whole overtaken vehicle in your right mirror, and you move into the right lane in good time, so that you do not change lanes just before the exit.

Legal basis: Art. 24 para. 1 and 2 and Art. 22 para. 1 and 4 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
