Question no. 2524 3 pts basic PT

In this situation, do you have an obligation to yield the right of way to vehicles moving on the transverse road?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video we are driving a tram along a street, we pass a stop, and before the junction with a road on the right there is sign D-1 "priority road" with a pedestrian crossing sign; a white van comes out of the intersecting road and crosses the tracks right in front of the tram. In this situation you are not obliged to give way to vehicles travelling on the intersecting road - the answer is NO.

Sign D-1 means that you are driving on a priority road, so drivers coming out of the intersecting road must give way to the tram. However, right of way does not exempt you from caution: the van is already entering the junction and may stop on the tracks. The tram cannot go around it, and its braking distance is long, so you reduce speed and watch whether the driver really stops. Also remember the pedestrians at the crossing - you must give way to them when they are on the crossing.

Legal basis: Art. 5 para. 1 and Art. 25 para. 2 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym); § 43 para. 1 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
