When leaving the slow traffic lane, are you obliged to exercise particular caution?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the video you are driving on a three-lane dual carriageway in the far right lane; blue sign D-14 "end of lane" next to the road and lane-change arrow P-9 on the roadway tell you that this lane is about to end and you have to move to the next lane; in the upper part of the picture the left indicator is flashing. When leaving the lane, you are obliged to exercise particular caution. The answer is: yes.

The Road Traffic Act states that a driver may change lanes only with particular caution, giving way to vehicles travelling in the lane they are moving into, and signalling the intention in good time with the indicator. The end of a lane does not give you any privilege: the driver in the left lane may not see that your lane is disappearing. You switch on the left indicator, check the mirror and the blind spot, and move over into a gap.

Legal basis: Art. 22 para. 1, 4 and 5 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym); § 49 para. 5 and § 87 para. 3 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
