Question no. 2442 3 pts basic BAA1A2AMB1CC1DD1T

Can you drive through the level crossing without stopping after the vehicle in front of you has started off?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

Before the level crossing there is sign B-20 "STOP". The car in front of you stopped, checked the tracks and moved off. The fact that it stopped does not do the job for you: the duty to stop applies to every driver separately. So you must stop again before the crossing, look both ways yourself and only then drive onto the tracks.

Sign B-20 means no entry without stopping and it is also used before tracks, and the Road Traffic Act requires every driver, before entering the tracks, to make sure that no rail vehicle is approaching. Driving across "behind the car in front" without stopping yourself is one of the most dangerous mistakes at level crossings: in those few seconds a train may have come into your field of view.

Legal basis: § 21 para. 1 and 4 of the Regulation on road signs and signals; Art. 28 para. 1 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
