What should you do in the case of nose bleeding?

In the photo, you can see a red first aid kit with the emergency numbers 999 and 112. In the case of a nosebleed, you squeeze the wings of the nose (the soft sides of the nose) and lean the casualty's head forward - answer A.

Squeezing the wings of the nose for 10-15 minutes usually stops the bleeding, and leaning the head forward makes the blood flow out instead of running down into the throat. Tilting the head back (answer C) is a mistake - the blood then runs down into the oesophagus or the airway, and it may cause vomiting or choking. You must also not leave the nosebleed without doing anything (answer B). The casualty should not blow their nose or swallow blood. If the bleeding does not stop after more than ten minutes or it started after a head injury, you call for medical help.
