Question no. 13134 3 pts basic AM

In this situation, can you drive past the pedestrian?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video we are turning right into a street with parking spaces; just beyond the junction there is a pedestrian crossing, which a pedestrian is crossing right now. In this situation you cannot drive through in front of the pedestrian - the answer is NO.

The Road Traffic Act requires a driver approaching a pedestrian crossing to exercise particular caution, to reduce speed so as not to endanger a pedestrian who is on the crossing or entering it, and to give way to him. The pedestrian is on the crossing, so you stop before it and wait until he has crossed. Driving through in front of him, even when it seems that you "will make it", could frighten him and force him to stop - and that means you did not give way to him. This is one of the most serious petty offences.

Legal basis: Art. 26 para. 1 and 2 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
