When driving a motor vehicle with a trailer in a residential area, are you entitled to drive at 30 km/h?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
C. No.
Explanation
In the photo there is the entrance to a small street in a housing estate; on the right there is a blue sign D-40 "residential area". When driving a power-driven vehicle with a trailer in a residential area, you are not allowed to drive at 30 km/h - answer C.
The Road Traffic Act states that the speed limit for a vehicle or vehicle combination in a residential area is 20 km/h, and the Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign D-40 marks the entry to a residential area. The limit applies to every vehicle, including one with a trailer, at any time of day - answer A with the condition "after dark" is made up, and answer B ignores the limit. A residential area is an area where a pedestrian may use the whole width of the road and has right of way over vehicles, children may play on the road, and parking is allowed only in designated places; a speed bump and other devices that force slow driving might not be marked with warning signs. That is why 20 km/h is a speed at which you will manage to stop in front of a child running out from behind a car. When leaving the area, you are joining traffic and you give way to everyone.
