While driving a truck, when do you have to turn off the rear anti-fog lights?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
C. When visibility increases to 60 m.
Explanation
In the photo you can see the yellow symbol of the rear fog light warning light - a lamp with horizontal lines coming from it, crossed by a wavy line. You are obliged to switch the rear fog lights off when visibility increases to 60 m - the answer is C.
The Road Traffic Act allows you to use rear fog lights only when reduced visibility limits how far you can see to less than 50 m, and when visibility improves, you must switch them off immediately. At 60 m the 50 m threshold has already been passed, so the lights must go off. At 30 m (answer A) and 40 m (answer B) visibility is still less than 50 m, so you may leave the rear fog lights on. These lights are very bright: in normal conditions they dazzle the driver behind you, and they may also hide your brake lights. That is why, after you drive out of the fog, you immediately check whether the warning light on the dashboard has gone out.
