Can you continue driving in this situation?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
NO
Explanation
In the video we are riding a moped along a street in town towards a pedestrian crossing with a traffic island; two pedestrians have just crossed our lane to the right pavement, and another pedestrian is walking from the island towards our part of the crossing. In this situation you cannot continue - the answer is NO.
The Road Traffic Act requires a driver approaching a pedestrian crossing to exercise particular caution, to reduce speed so as not to endanger a pedestrian who is on the crossing or stepping onto it, and to give way to that pedestrian. The pedestrian from the island is stepping onto the crossing in front of you, so you stop and let them cross. A crossing with a traffic island is in practice two crossings - a pedestrian who has crossed one part will soon step onto yours. You move off only when the pedestrians have left your lane.
