In the presented traffic situation, can you stop at the side of the road?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
NO
Explanation
In the video we are driving along a wide two-way roadway with lanes marked by a broken line; along the right edge there is a thick solid edge line, and a delivery van is coming from the opposite direction. In this situation you may not park on the shoulder - the answer is NO.
The Road Traffic Act prohibits stopping a vehicle on the roadway and on the shoulder next to a solid line marking the edge of the roadway. The ban on stopping also covers parking - since you are not allowed to stop there even for a moment, you are certainly not allowed to stay there for longer than a minute. A solid edge line also means that the driver of a motor vehicle must not drive onto the shoulder. If you want to rest or check something, you drive on to a place where the edge line is broken or where there is a car park. On the shoulder of a fast road, a parked moped is easy to miss.
