Question no. 10983 1 pts basic AM

Can you use position lights on this section of the road when driving a motorbike not equipped with daytime running lights?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video we are entering a lit tunnel, in which tram tracks run next to the roadway and a tram is moving; before the entrance there are warning signs and a height limit. On this section, when riding a moped that is not equipped with daytime running lights, you may not use sidelights (position lights) alone - the answer is NO.

The Road Traffic Act requires the driver to use dipped headlights when driving in conditions of normal visibility - always, also in a tunnel. Dipped headlights are part of a moped's mandatory equipment, so when you ride it, you have them switched on. Sidelights are used to mark a vehicle when it is parked or stopped, and they do not replace dipped headlights, because they do not light up the road. The exception for vehicles that do not have dipped headlights does not apply here. In a tunnel your eyes need a moment to adjust to the half-light, so you slow down before entering.
