Question no. 10974 1 pts basic AM

Can you use daytime running lights in these road conditions, when driving a motorbike or light quadricycle?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video we are driving at night along a wide street in town, lit by a row of street lamps; on the left we pass a tram stop and a pedestrian crossing. After dark, when riding a moped or driving a light quadricycle, you may not use daytime running lights instead of dipped headlights - the answer is NO.

The Road Traffic Act allows daytime running lights to be used instead of dipped headlights only from dawn to dusk, in conditions of normal visibility. At night - even on a well-lit street - you must have your dipped headlights on. Daytime running lights are designed to make the vehicle visible during the day; they do not light up the road and do not switch on the rear lights, so after dark the vehicle would be almost invisible from behind. Street lamps do not replace your lights. A moped and a light quadricycle are small, so after dark their visibility is particularly important.
