Should you in this situation keep a safe distance of at least 1m from the vehicle when overtaking it?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
NO
Explanation
In the video we are driving in the middle lane of a wide street and overtaking an articulated city bus travelling in the right lane. When overtaking such a vehicle, you do not have to keep a distance of at least 1 m - the answer is NO.
When overtaking, you must keep a safe distance from the vehicle being overtaken. The rule sets a minimum value of 1 m only for overtaking a bicycle, a moped, a motorcycle, an electric scooter, a personal transport device (UTO), a cycle cart, a person using a mobility aid and a column of pedestrians - a bus is not on this list. This does not mean that you can drive right next to it: a safe distance from a large bus usually requires keeping to the middle of your own lane, or even its left part. The bus may suddenly change its path when approaching a stop, and the air blast next to it noticeably shakes a two-wheeler.
