Question no. 10933 3 pts basic AM

Is overtaking allowed at this intersection?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the video we are driving along a wide, empty street in a large city; ahead of us is a roundabout with signs A-7 and C-12, where traffic is controlled by traffic lights. Overtaking is allowed at this junction - the answer is YES.

The Road Traffic Act prohibits overtaking a power-driven vehicle travelling on the roadway at a junction, but it directly excludes from this ban roundabouts and junctions where traffic is controlled - by traffic lights or by a person directing traffic. This junction meets both conditions. When overtaking, you must still meet the general conditions: have adequate visibility and enough space, and make sure that nobody behind you has started overtaking and that the driver in front of you is not signalling a change of lane. On a roundabout, overtaking is often combined with changing lanes, so you signal it with your indicator and do not cut in on others.

Legal basis: Art. 24 para. 1 and para. 7 point 3 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
