Question no. 10920 3 pts basic AM

In this situation, if you want to turn right at the intersection, are you obliged to stop the vehicle before the traffic light?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the video we approach a junction in the right lane, which has a right-turn arrow; the traffic lights show a red signal, and next to it a green arrow pointing right; signs A-7 and D-6 stand next to the traffic lights. If you want to turn right, you are obliged to stop the vehicle before the traffic lights - the answer is YES.

A green arrow shown together with a red signal is not full permission to drive, only conditional permission. The turn is allowed on condition that you stop before the traffic lights and do not obstruct other road users. For pedestrians and drivers who have green at that moment, your turn may come as a surprise, so after stopping you look around and let them all through. Do not confuse this arrow with the green arrow in directional traffic lights S-3 - there it is lit instead of a full green signal and does not require stopping. You will recognise traffic lights S-2 by the fact that the arrow is lit next to the red light.

Legal basis: § 96 para. 1 and 3 and § 97 para. 1 and 3 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
