When turning right at this intersection, must you yield the right of way to vehicles approaching from the left?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
NO
Explanation
In the video we are driving along a residential street between blocks of flats, past parked cars, towards a junction with signs A-5 "crossroads" and D-6 "pedestrian crossing" in front of it. When you turn right there, you do not have to give way to vehicles that might approach from the left - the answer is NO.
At an uncontrolled junction of equal roads the right-hand rule applies: everyone gives way to a vehicle approaching from the right. For a driver on the road to your left, you are the vehicle from the right, so it is that driver who is obliged to give way to you. When turning right, you give way only to vehicles from the right if your path crosses theirs, to pedestrians crossing the roadway you are entering, and to cyclists going straight on. Even though you have right of way, you exercise particular caution - the driver on the left may not notice a two-wheeler appearing from behind parked cars, so make sure they can see you.
