Question no. 10870 3 pts basic AM

In this situation, when turning left at the intersection, do you have priority over vehicles approaching from the right?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video we are driving along a residential street between blocks of flats, past parked cars, towards a junction with signs A-5 "crossroads" and D-6 "pedestrian crossing" in front of it. When you turn left there, you do not have right of way over vehicles approaching from the right - the answer is NO.

At an uncontrolled junction of equal roads, announced by sign A-5, priority comes from the Road Traffic Act, not from signs. A driver gives way to a vehicle approaching from the right, and if turning left - also to vehicles coming from the opposite direction going straight on or turning right. So a left turn does not give you any right of way; on the contrary - it is the manoeuvre in which you give way to the largest number of road users. Before turning, you move towards the centre of the roadway, switch on your indicator and watch the road on the right and from the opposite direction, and when turning, you also let through pedestrians crossing the roadway you are entering.

Legal basis: Art. 22 para. 2 point 2 and para. 5, Art. 25 para. 1 and Art. 26 para. 2 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym); § 5 para. 1 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
