In the presented situation, did the driver of the combination vehicles no. 1 act accordingly?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
YES
Explanation
In the picture there is a roadway with four lanes in one direction; an ambulance with its blue lights and siren on is driving along the corridor between the far left lane and the second lane. Vehicle combination no. 1 - a car with a trailer in the far right lane - has moved to the right edge of its lane. The driver of combination no. 1 acted correctly. The answer is: yes.
The Road Traffic Act states that when heavy traffic makes it difficult for an emergency vehicle (with flashing blue lights and a siren) to pass, on a roadway with more than two lanes in the same direction, the driver in the far left lane pulls over as close as possible to the left edge of the lane, and drivers in the other lanes - as close as possible to the right edge of their lanes. Combination no. 1 is in the far right lane, so its driver's duty was to move to the right - and they did so, placing the car with the trailer at the right edge. It does not matter that it is far from the ambulance: everyone across the whole width of the roadway must form the corridor, because the ambulance may also need to pass closer to the right side if someone does not pull over.
