Question no. 10352 3 pts basic B

You are driving a passenger car with bikes attached to the roof of a total height of 2.6 meters. Can you continue driving straight ahead safely with the load?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video, you are approaching a passage under a brick building; on the right there is sign B-16 "no entry for vehicles over 2.5 m in height". When driving a passenger car with bicycles on the roof with a total height of 2.6 m, you cannot continue straight on in a way that is safe for the load. The answer is: no.

The Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign B-16 means that vehicles whose height, including the load, is greater than the value shown on the sign are prohibited. Your car with its load is 2.6 m high, and the sign allows 2.5 m - the difference is only 10 cm, but when driving under the arch of a gateway it means torn-off bicycles, a broken roof rack and a damaged structure. The ban applies regardless of whether you think you will "somehow fit": the height on the sign already includes a safety margin, and bumps in the cobbles and suspension movement can use it up. The Road Traffic Act also requires the load to be placed so that it does not affect the stability of the vehicle or make driving difficult. A driver carrying something on the roof must know the height of their car with its load and remember it at every B-16 sign, at every entrance to an underground car park and before every flyover. Here you make a U-turn or choose another street.

Legal basis: § 20 para. 2 of the Regulation on road signs and signals; Art. 61 para. 2 point 2 and 3 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
