What kind of danger does the presented vertical sign warn you of?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
A. Strong side wind gusts.
Explanation
The illustration shows a yellow triangle with a symbol of a windsock on a mast - sign A-19 "side wind". It warns of strong side gusts of wind - answer A. It is not about wind only from the right (B) or a headwind (C).
The Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign A-19 "side wind" warns of a place where strong side gusts of wind may occur. You will find this sign on bridges, flyovers, high embankments, at the mouths of valleys and on open, flat sections beyond a forest - where shelter suddenly disappears and the wind hits the side of the vehicle. The windsock symbol does not show the direction of the wind; a gust can come from any side. A side wind pushes the car towards the edge of the roadway or into the next lane, most of all light cars, minibuses, cars with a trailer and motorcycles; when you overtake a lorry, the wind disappears for a moment behind its side and hits again once you have passed it. Warning signs require you to exercise particular caution: you slow down, hold the steering wheel with both hands, do not make sudden movements and increase your lateral clearance from other vehicles.
