B-20 Stop

What it means

Bans entering the intersection without stopping before the priority road and requires you to give way to vehicles on that road. You stop at the place marked by line P-12, or without it before the intersection where you can see the crossing road well. A sign within the intersection applies only to the nearest carriageway; before a level crossing it means stopping before the tracks.

In the exam

Stopping is always compulsory, even when nothing is coming and even at night. Failing to stop is an exam-ending error. If traffic lights next to the sign are working, you follow the lights, not the sign.

Legal basis: § 21 of the regulation of the Ministers of Infrastructure and of the Interior and Administration on road signs and signals (Dz.U. 2019 poz. 2310, as amended).

Does stopping in a queue before a STOP sign count?

If you stop behind another car before the designated stopping point, stop again when you reach that point. Where there is a P-12 line, stop before it. Without a line, choose a position from which you can assess traffic on the priority road and make sure you will not obstruct it. The P-12 stop line →

Must I wait for 3 seconds at a STOP sign in Poland?

The rule for B-20 does not prescribe three seconds. Your vehicle must come to a complete stop and you must give way. Counting seconds does not allow you to move if a vehicle with priority is approaching or you cannot see well enough. Priority at junctions in Poland →
