Question no. 9447 3 pts basic B

You intend to turn left. Do you have priority over the pedestrian in the presented situation?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video you are approaching a junction in a town with sign A-7 "give way" and a pedestrian crossing marked with sign D-6 with plate T-27; a pedestrian is crossing the roadway from the left. As you intend to turn left, you do not have right of way over the pedestrian. The answer is: no.

The Road Traffic Act requires a driver approaching a pedestrian crossing to exercise particular caution, to reduce speed and to give way to a pedestrian who is on the crossing or stepping onto it; a driver turning into an intersecting road must also give way to a pedestrian who, at the junction, is crossing the roadway of the road they are entering - also outside a crossing. So when turning left, you cross the path of pedestrians twice: first at the crossing before the junction, then on the roadway of the road you are turning into. In addition, sign A-7 requires you to give way to vehicles on the priority road, and a left turn also requires you to let through vehicles from the opposite direction. The order is simple: you stop, let the pedestrian cross, then the vehicles, and you make the turn smoothly, watching whether another pedestrian is stepping off the pavement.

Legal basis: Art. 26 para. 1 and 2 and Art. 25 para. 1 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym); § 5 para. 5 and § 47 para. 5 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
