What factors have an influence on the total perception and reaction time of a vehicle driver?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
B. Visibility on the road, the complexity of the traffic situation.
Explanation
In the photo you can see a road through a forest on a sunny day. The total perception and reaction time of a driver is affected by visibility on the road and the complexity of the traffic situation - answer B. The condition of the tyres (A) and additional vehicle mass (C) affect the braking distance, that is, what happens after you press the pedal, not how quickly you notice a danger and react.
The Road Traffic Act requires the driver to drive at a speed that keeps the vehicle under control, taking into account the traffic conditions, in particular the condition and visibility of the road, the weather conditions and the traffic volume - precisely because in worse conditions you react later. Reaction time is the period from the moment a danger appears to the start of braking: for a well-rested driver it is about one second, but it gets longer when the obstacle is hard to see, when many things are happening at once at a junction, when you are tired, distracted by your phone or after drinking alcohol. Every extra second at 90 km/h means 25 m travelled without braking. That is why at night, in fog and at busy junctions you slow down to gain time to react.
